In addition to rugged housing, the Omni Barcode-Stripe Reader has a metal base with tapped holes and rubber feet, and can be Velcro mounted. Multi-colored LED (not on TTL). The cable can exit at the end, side or straight down. Options include visible or infrared bar code scanning, as well as TTL, RS-232, Keyboard wedge (AT/XT, PS/2, or Mac), Weigand or USB interface options.

USB adapter cables from ID Tech take Keyboard wedge output and convert it to USB/keyboard input, allowing the connection of a standard keyboard interface device to the USB port of a host computer. By plugging the device's connector into the adapter, and the other end of the adapter into one of the host's USB input ports, data from the reader will appear to the host as if entered via the keyboard. An ID Tech USB cable is fully functional on a USB-equipped IBM PC or PC-compatible running Windows 98 or 2000, or on an Apple computer running Mac OS 8.1 and above.

The VersaKey 230 guarantees a minimum of 1,000,000 card swipes and 20,000,000 key operations. In addition, it has 3 year warranty. The VersaKey 230 decodes data characters from the individual tracks. Any credit, debit, loyalty, or any other ISO 7811 compliant card can be reliably read. The reader output is versatile, its output is programmable to provide the card data characters in application friendly formats using the 'MagStripe Configuration Utility' software. The utility programs the reader to edit and format data, such as dividing, rearranging, and parsing the magnetic stripe data.
